Current BPNA member households who haven’t previously gotten one can pick up their free\, complimentary wine glass at the meeting.  Not a member?  Join or renew now. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBoard Elections 2023\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nIn compliance with the BPNA Bylaws\, the annual Board Elections will take place immediately after the March Community Meeting.  \n\n\n\nThe four (4) positions up for election this year are as follows:  President\, Vice President of Events & Fundraising\, Vice President of Historic Preservation\, and Vice President of Public Safety.  All positions serve for a 2-year term. Only the role of President is limited to serving for 3 consecutive terms in that position. \n\n\n\nImportant qualifications\, roles\, and responsibilities of board officers are outlined in the BPNA’s Bylaws\, Policies\, and Manners of Acting\, which can be found on the About Us page on this website. \n\n\n\nAdult BPNA Members who are paid; current; in good standing; and living\, owning or renting within the Bluff Park Historic District are eligible to run for positions and/or vote in the BPNA’s Board Elections. The final call for candidates will take place during this Community Meeting. \n\n\n\nBalloting of the BPNA’s Voting Membership will be conducted electronically via email over a 7-day period from March 23 through March 29\, 2023.  Dates are subject to minor changes based on the e-notification being sent. When Hurricane Katrina hit I decided that since my time was now my own I looked into ways I could help. One night I was attending a volunteer orientation with the Red Cross. The following day I was on a plane to Louisiana. After three weeks of helping to change peoples lives and seeing them smile again \,  I was hooked. Since that time almost twenty years ago I’ve become more involved with Disaster preparedness\, response\, and recovery. I have worked on 33 national disasters. What I do locally is a bit different. I am the Volunteer Lead for the Greater Long American Beach Red Cross. Most of my time is spent working in Los Angeles to better prepare its communities in emergency preparedness. I also teach classes \, train newer volunteers\, and help families locally who have been displaced because of an emergency. Mostly house and apartment fires.  I’ve seen enough devastation to know that disasters effect everyone. Depending on how prepared we are will make all the difference in recovery from a disaster. I’m here to help and hopefully motivate you to start now. DESCRIPTION:Join us for our 6th Annual Holiday Bow Breakfast and decorating party.  After breakfast we will hit the streets and adorn our iconic lampposts with beautiful red bows for the holidays.  All are invited! \nWere you here years ago when the neighborhood’s iconic lampposts were decorated with bows for the holidays? \nInspired by our esteemed residents and local historic preservationists\, Helena Segelhorst and her husband\, of blessed memory\, Elbert Segelhorst\, let us together recreate this wonderful holiday tradition that brightens our streets. \nFree and family friendly event!  \nWe will meet for a light breakfast fare and then place bows on the historic lampposts at the intersections all along East 1st Street and the NEW lampposts along Paloma Avenue and Temple Avenue. \nNo experience needed. Current BPNA members will receive a free\, complimentary wine glass at the meeting.  Not a member?  Join or renew now. \n \n\n  \n  \n  \nMEET OUR GUEST SPEAKERS  \n \nMaureen Neeley is a reference librarian and owner of HouStories\, having researched over 4000 properties in Long Beach.  She is a past recipient of Long Beach Heritage‘s Preservationist of the Year\, served as past president of Belmont Heights Community Association\, and serves in numerous leadership and advisory roles for historic preservation organizations.  She has lived in Long Beach since 1996. \n \nTim Grobaty is a columnist for the Long Beach Post.  He began his newspaper career at the Press-Telegram in 1976 as a copy boy and then became a feature writer\, music critic\, TV critic\, copy editor\, and daily columnist.  He has been with the Post since 2018.  He is the author of several books\, including I’m Dyin’ Here. DESCRIPTION:Lend a Helping Hand at the BPNA’s Quarterly \nNeighborhood Clean-Up & Breakfast \nA FEEL GOOD CIVIC ACTIVITY FOR ALL AGES! \nSaturday\, June 18 \n9:00 to 10:30 AM \nMeet at the Corner of Redondo Ave & E. 2nd St (Trolley Park) \n– All cleaning supplies and personal equipment provided.\n– Stop by anytime and come as you are.\n– Stay for as long or as short as you like.\n– Bring friends and family.\n– Start the weekend with a good feeling for the work you’ve done!\n\nThe City of Long Beach Public Works Clean Team is working to make special arrangements to have a truck driving through the neighborhood to pick up large items and electronic-waste left by the curb before 9am or items can be brought with you to the Neighborhood Clean Up location above before 10am.  To confirm the availability of this service and make specific address requests\, send an email by the night before to events@bluffpark.org\n\nA MESSAGE FROM PUBLIC WORKS:\n\n\nWe’ll be able to provide Public Works support with one refuse truck and one e-waste stake bed throughout the duration of your clean-up event\,\n\nIf neighbors are able to bring their e-waste and large items for dumping to the clean-up site that would be best. Another option would be for that resident to call in for a special pick-up if their items are not picked up or report via the GO Long Beach app if they are items that do not belong to them.\n\nNote: At this time Public Works is still unable to accept any hazardous waste at our clean-up events. I’ve attached a couple of PDFs (see links below) with information on what is considered hazardous waste and where LB residents can go to dispose of it. E-waste includes items such as stoves\, refrigerators\, washing machines\, TVS\, microwaves\, other electronic appliances.
