DESCRIPTION:MESSAGE FROM 3RD DISTRICT COUNCILWOMAN SUZIE PRICE:\nOn Thursday\, August 31\, at 6:00 PM at the Field Office (340 Nieto Ave.) Councilwoman Suzie Price will be hosting a community budget meeting to discuss the proposed 2018 City Budget. The City Manager will do a brief presentation\, then open up to questions and answers from various departments including Police\, Fire\, Public Works\, Parks\, Recreation and Marine\, Tidelands\, and Homeless Services. \nIf you are interested in the budget process I would encourage you to attend this meeting and learn more about the upcoming budget. Additionally\, in order to be mindful of the fact that this meeting is being held during dinner time for many residents we will be including small appetizers to make attending easier for those just getting home from work. \nThe budget is a major endeavor and dominates the months of August and September every year. I always advocate for a prudent budget that looks realistically at how we can ensure the city is on strong financial footing\, while also offering the best essential services that Long Beach can provide. The budget is an important time for us to collectively reflect our values through the way we allocate resources. \nFor me\, those values are simple – I want our budget to be balanced and responsible. One bad budget can put the city on the wrong track for years\, so ensuring we put Long Beach on a strong foundation for many years to come is a major focus for me. Additionally\, our public safety and infrastructure are seeing bigger investments than they have seen in decades\, so making sure that these funds are allocated in a way that Long Beach residents get the biggest bang for their bucks is very important because we need more police and more road repairs throughout the City. DESCRIPTION:Local Harvest Certified California Grown Farmers’ Market\nOpen Every Saturday\n10:00 AM to 3:00 PM\n \nLocated in Bixby Park in front of the Band Shell on Junipero between 1st and 2nd Streets \n\n \n\n\n\nPart of Rancho Los Alamitos\, John W. Bixby and the original park superintendent\, Mr. Nessick planted trees on the site between 1886 and 1903. The original portion of the park was donated in 1903\, by the Alamitos Land Company\, as part of the subdivision of the Alamitos Beach Town site. It was known as Alamitos Park. After annexation to the Long Beach in 1905\, the park was renamed Jotham Bixby Park in February 1907. By 1928 Bixby Park was famous for large state picnics. \nA great location for a special event\, it is the home of Bixby Park Local Harvest Farmers’ Market. \nThere is a variety of farm fresh Certified California Grown Fruits and Vegetables\, along with fresh cooked fare vendors\, and a wide variety of gourmet specialty foods. \nArts\, crafts and jewelry from local area vendors can also be found and purchased here. \nMusicians from the surrounding communities will entertain you while you shop\, eat\, or spend the day just leisurely strolling through. \n
