Many of these projects involve improvements to the treasured Leeway Sailing Center\, upgrades to the heavily used concession stands\, and additions to the widely enjoyed Bayshore Swim Dock. \n\n\nIn addition to the presentation from the Tidelands Division\, everyone will have the opportunity to hear from our newly appointed Neighborhood Impact Prosecutor. We are excited to introduce the Neighborhood Impact Prosecutor to our community and discuss the future of our beautiful district. Attendees will also have the opportunity to hear brief updates from the Third District\, the Long Beach Fire Department\, the Marine Bureau\, and the Long Beach Police Department’s East Division. It is one of the most important ways to prevent influenza\, which is frequently much worse than a typical “cold virus”. \n \n\n\n\nHealth Officer Confirms First Death from Influenza in Long Beach this Flu Season\nImportant Message to All Long Beach Residents: The City Health Officer has confirmed the first influenza-associated death in an individual less than 65 years of age in Long Beach during the 2017-2018 flu season.  \n  \nThe individual was in their 30s and had underlying health conditions. “This death is a sober reminder that flu can cause serious illness\,” said Anissa Davis\, MD\, MPH\, Long Beach City Health Officer. “The Long Beach Health Department continues to recommend that all individuals six months of age and older get their flu vaccine. Getting the flu vaccine can prevent people from getting sick\, or may lessen the severity of symptoms for those who become ill.”  \n  \nThe California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reported 74 cases of laboratory-confirmed influenza-associated deaths among patients under 65 years of age to date during this flu season. Surveillance conducted by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) indicates that the primary flu strain this season is influenza A (H3N2)\, which has been associated with higher rates of hospitalizations and deaths in persons 65 years and older and young children.  \n  \nThe CDC recommends flu vaccine for everyone over six months of age\, especially those at greatest risk for complications and those who live with or care for these individuals:  \n• Pregnant women.  \n• Children younger than five years of age.  \n• Adults 65 years and older.  \n• People with weakened immune systems.  \n• Those with certain medical conditions such as diabetes\, heart disease\, lung disease\, or conditions affecting the nervous system.  \n• People who are overweight or obese.  \n• Those working or living in nursing homes or long-term care facilities.  \n• Health care personnel.  \n• Child care workers.  \n  \nSymptoms of flu include: fever\, cough\, sore throat\, runny nose\, body aches\, headaches\, and fatigue. In addition to getting the flu vaccine\, practicing good hygiene such as washing hands\, covering one’s cough\, and staying home when sick can prevent those around you from becoming ill. It is not too late to get vaccinated against the flu.  \n  \nThe Long Beach Department of Health and Human Services (Health Department) continues to vaccinate residents during the flu season. DESCRIPTION:  \nThe Belmont Shore Business Association’s (BSBA) Annual Christmas Parade is in its 35th year. Happening Saturday\, December 2nd from 6pm to 9pm \nGrand Marshal will be a Long Beach legend\, 5-time Olympic Medalist Tony Azevedo! \nThe Belmont Shore Christmas Parade will begin on Livingston & 2nd and march down East Second Street to the beat of over a dozen local marching bands. Featuring over 100 entries\, including floats designed by Long Beach businesses and associations\, marching bands\, and local personalities and dignitaries. And of course\, no Christmas Parade would be complete without an appearance by good ole’ St. Nick! \nBelmont Shore side streets will be closed at 2pm and 2nd St. will be closed to traffic at 5pm. No property of any kind is permitted on the sidewalk or center median until 5:00 pm (chairs\, blankets\, tables\, coolers\, tape\, chains etc ). All items will be removed and taken to Bayshore Library for pick-up. Most importantly\, the areas may not be “roped off”. Such obstacles and possessions may be removed and taken to the Bay Shore Library for pick up after the event. The City of Long Beach has made this request for the purpose of protecting public safety and allowing pedestrian access along the sidewalk.  \n\nParking is available at the Marine stadium parking lot & Ocean Ave. beach lots.  \n\nVisit: http://www.belmontshore.org/christmas-parade/ for updated parade information.
