Land Use Element: Public Forum Discussion

Wed, October 18, 2017 @ 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Are you concerned about increased density and growth potential in Long Beach?

Make sure to attend an upcoming public discussion forum!
BPNA would like to help spread the word about Long Beach’s Land Use Element of the General Plan, and its future impact on the density and growth of the city.
City staff recently completed the Land Use Element (LUE) of the General Plan and brought it to the Planning Commission.
Some citizens voiced their concerns about the increased density allowed on major thoroughfares and other areas in Long Beach detailed in the LUE.
The Commission voted to allow more public discussion of the matter before any action is taken.
Four meetings are scheduled in various venues around the city between now and October 18. The public is invited to attend and participate in them.
Dates and locations are as follows:
1. Saturday, Sept 303-5 p.m. at Veterans Park Community Center, 101 E. 28th St.
2. Weds, October 46-8 p.m. at Whaley Park Community Center, 5620 Atherton St.
3. Saturday, October 14, 11am-1 pm at Best Western Golden Sails Hotel, 6285 E. PCH
4. Wednesday, October 186-8 p.m. at Scherer Park, 4891 Atlantic Ave. Outdoor tent area adjacent to the Long Beach Police North Division

Note: Change of Location for October 18 Public Forum Meeting

The meeting location for the fourth event has been relocated from the Expo Center due to roofing construction; and as the City expects more attendees than the facility can accommodate, based on previous General Plan meeting attendance.  The event will now be held in an outdoor tent area at Scherer Park, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm, adjacent to the Long Beach Police North Division, 4891 Atlantic Ave., to better accommodate the several hundred expected attendees and help ensure parking availability.

The meetings will feature a town hall presentation, a question and answer component, and an open house format to provide several opportunities for engagement.  This format will enable a diversity of voices to participate and offer input on this important planning project.
